Mathews
Mathews County is located in southeastern Virginia, on the eastern tip of the Middle Peninsula. The second smallest county in the state, Mathews has more than 200 miles of shoreline. The county is bordered by the Chesapeake Bay, Mobjack Bay, and the Piankatank River. Mathews County is 80 miles east of Richmond and 175 miles south of Washington, D.C. The Port of Hampton Roads is 65 miles south. The county is located within the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).
