Historic Garden Week : Middle Peninsula

May 3, 2019
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Historic architecture and design have been preserved and restored in many early 18th century properties located off Route 17 South in Essex County. Named for Essex County in England, and chartered in 1691, this rural area is the site of numerous historical houses that have survived the ravages of time and war. These homes, sometimes referred to as Tidewater South, have gable roofs, dormer windows, and a large chimney at either end. Four of the five featured properties are examples of Tidewater South preservation and restoration. Ben Lomond and Rose Hill, which have never been open for Historic Garden Week, as well as Aspen Grove, and Woodland are outstanding examples of colonial architecture and design.
