Experience the beauty, strength, rich history and resilience of the waterways and the people who have called it home, past and present.  This local festival is part of the Virginia Customs, Culture and Cuisine Festival which is a strategic part of the larger 2019 Commemoration that recognizes the 400th anniversary of pivotal 1619 Virginia events that forever changed the trajectory of Virginia and America’s history. These 1619 events include the first official English Thanksgiving in North America, the arrival of the first recorded Africans to English North America, the recruitment of English women in significant numbers to the Virginia colony, the launch of entrepreneurship and innovation in the Commonwealth and more!

Location:  Nestled on Hockley Creek at the mouth of the York River in Shacklefords, VA, Hockley Retreat is a unique structure that once served as a regional post office and general store in the 1800s.   

Parking:  Free shuttle service will be provided for all ticketed guests to and from Hockley Retreat. Depart and return at regular intervals throughout the day beginning at 11:45 from: West Point Schools, 2700 Mattaponi Avenue, West Point
