Working Waterman Weekend

May 2, 2020
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Celebrate the official season opening of the Deltaville Maritime Museum and it's Working Waterman's Heritage!  Our location on the Rapphannock River and Chesapeake Bay has allowed boating and fishing to be a way of life.  Come see the allure of the Rivah!

Friday night kicks off with a Shrimp and BBQ Dinner & Dance (5pm-9pm). Shake off the winter by dancing alfresco under a wooden pavilion.

Saturday begins with the Holly Point Farmer's Market (9am-1pm). Stroll through the vendors selling locally grown produce, honey, plants, artisan cheeses and breads, grass-fed meats, hand-crafted clothing, jewelry, soaps, candles and art.

The museum will be open with boating and bay exhibits.  On the pier, come aboard the antique F. D. Crockett buyboat and Explorer (Capt. John Smith reproduction). Learn about oyster tonging and crabbing, take a free boat ride on Jackson Creek. A car show and model trains display add to the entertainment.

Holly Point Nature Park has a kayak launch, walking trails, picnic tables and children's garden.  Bring a picnic or catch a bite at the Tea House.

Saturday night is the "Groovin' in the Park" waterfront concert (6pm-8pm). Bring your lawn chair and cooler, and listen to the music by the water.

MAY FAIRE 2020 Celebrating Our Mathews Water Heritage

May 2, 2020
9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

MAY FAIRE AT MATHEWS HISTORICAL MUSEUM!

MAY FAIRE 2020   "Celebrate Our Mathews Water heritage" -- our county's Spring Heritage Festival sponsored by the Mathews Historical Museum  -- Saturday, May 2, the first weekend in May, on the Court Green

We will honor our water heritage, our watermen and women, lighthouses and their keepers, our shipbuilding heritage, oystering, kayaking as well as some of our artist watermen in an art gallery show at the museum.

A special event, "Conversations with Watermen," will be held at the Mathews Historic Court House and will feature Mathews residents whose livelihoods have centered around water-related activities and industries.  They will share their stories with us.

Also, as part of the historic nature of May Faire 2020, this year we will launch an electronic pictorial display of watermen who have submitted their photos and stories for publication.

The traditional May Pole dance will be featured on the Court Green, along with our children's corner and area crafts vendors--all will be a part of this year's heritage festival. Come join us and bring your friends.
